 An impressive and elegant London Georgian mahogany longcase clock. A fine quality case with an arched pediment surmounted by 3 original brass finials. Front and rear brass quarter Corinthian hood columns and side sound fretwork panels. Brass stopped fluted hood, and trunk side columns as seen on the best London cases of this period. A re-entrant raised base panel and the original base skirting. A well engraved silvered dial with blued steel hands with strike/silent to the arch. A seconds and date dial. An 8-day duration, 5 pillar mechanism striking the hours on a bell. This mechanism is higher quality having a dead-beat escapement. Original brass cased weights. Circa 1785.

John Jackson of London is recorded in Baillies' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working from 1781. He was master of The Clockmakers Company in 1796.
