An 18th century period verge bracket/table clock by John Partington of London. A well proportioned 'bell top' ebonised case with a carrying handle. An arched front door with glass panels to the top. Ogee brass bracket feet. Side glass apertures showing the mechanism. A high quality, single fusee verge escapement mechanism with passing bell striking to the hours. A 6" arched dial with blued steel hands. A silvered chapter ring, decorative arch boss and gilded corner spandrels. Engraved to the dial 'John Partington, London'. Circa 1780.
The Partington family of clockmakers are recorded in Baillies' Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working in London in the 18th and 19th centuries John Partington is noted as working circa 1790. We have recently had a wall clock by them.
