 An impressive London George I walnut longcase clock. A fine quality case with a caddy pediment flanked by two gilt wooden finials. Fine fretwork to the hood. Rear brass quarter hood columns and side glass panels. Choice burr walnut case veneers and a glass lenticle to the trunk door. A double plinth skirting. A brass and silvered arched dial with corner spandrels and matted centre. Chased dial border engraving. A seconds and date dial. An 8-day duration, 5 pillar mechanism striking the hours on a bell with internal count wheel. Circa 1720.

Cornelius Herbert of London Bridge is recorded in Brittens' 'Old Clocks and Watches Their Makers' book as being apprenticed in 1690. He was a member of the Clockmakers Company in 1700 and master in 1727. A marquetry longcase is noted in the Weatherfield collection and one in St Lawrence Jewry in 1721.
