An English Georgian twin fusee bracket clock. A well proportioned inverted arched top mahogany case with a brass carrying handle. Brass capped side columns. Quality, cast brass sound fretted side panels with silk backing. Ogee brass bracket feet. Brass edged, glass opening front door. An arched glass back door. A rarer true enamel dial with blued steel hands. An enamel strike/silent dial to the arch. Cast brass corner dial spandrels'. A quality double fusee, verge escapement mechanism striking the hours on a bell of 8-day duration. A very well engraved backplate. Circa 1780.
This clock is likely to have been made by Ellicott of London. He was one of the makers who used true enamel dials as opposed to painted metal. The case design is also very similar to ones by Ellicott as illustrated in 'The Georgian Bracket Clock' book by Richard Barder.
