A quality Georgian bracket clock by Robert Simpson of London. Choice flame mahogany veneers of good colour to the well proportioned case. An arched top with cast brass carrying handle. Arched side sound brass fretwork with silk backing. Ebonised banding to the case front. A twin fusee, 5-pillar mechanism striking the hours on a bell. A border engraved backplate, side case mounts and pendulum. Pull repeat cord. Brass bun feet. A convex painted dial with 'moon' blued steel hands signed 'Simpson London' with a cast brass bezel surround and convex glass. Engraved 'Simpson London' to the backplate. Circa 1810.


Robert Simpson of London is recorded in Baillies' ' Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World' book as working from 1782-1811.
