George Williams Axbridge 'Grandmother' Clock

 A very slim 'Grandmother' type longcase clock. Choice burr walnut case veneers and a crossbanded base panel. A flat moulded hood pediment with turned side columns. A small 8" arched brass dial (11" high) with engraved corners. 'Geo. Williams, Axbridge' with chased engraving to the arch. A central alarm dial disc and blued steel hands. A brass cased single weight, non-striking 5 day duration mechanism. A subsidiary alarm mechanism running on a chain.

George Williams of Axbridge is recorded in A J Moores' 'Somerset Clockmakers' book as working in 1780 and moved to Bath in 1785. The case is later purpose made from the Edwardian period, circa 1910 and made to a high standard.
