A rare feature of an 'up down' power reserve marker, often seen on marine chronometers and other purpose built watches. An 18K gold case with London hallmarks for 1872. An exceptional quality fusee mechanism with a rare half-quarter repeat feature. When the slide lever is activated, the watch will strike for the hour, each quarter and if the time is 7 1/2 minutes past the last quarter this will be struck with an extra gong.
